by Carla on October 5, 2012

Halloween songs and finger playsCelebrate Halloween your in-home family daycare or daycare center through fun songs and finger plays with a Halloween theme. Consider teaching the following Halloween finger plays and poems in your child care center. They are great Halloween activities for circle time in your daycare and for your Halloween Party.

The Pumpkins are Here [1]
Sung to the tune: The Farmer in the Dell
The pumpkins are here, the pumpkins are there. The pumpkins, the pumpkins are everywhere.
The pumpkins are up; the pumpkins are down. The pumpkins, the pumpkins are all around.
The pumpkins are in; the pumpkins are out. The pumpkins, the pumpkins are all about.
The pumpkins are low; the pumpkins are high. The pumpkins, the pumpkins all say, “Good-bye”.
*Cut out pumpkin shapes and glue to popsicle sticks to use as props.

Three Little Witches [2]
One little, two little, three little witches. (Hold up 1,2,3 fingers)
Fly over haystacks, fly over ditches. (Make flying motion with hands)
Fly over moonbeams without any hitches. (Make flying motion with opposite hand.)
Hey, Ho, Halloween Night! (Clap)
One little, two little, three little witches. (Hold up 1,2,3 fingers)
Fly over barb wire and tore there britches. (Make flying motion with one hand, then turn and show your “torn britches”)
Had to go home and get some stitches. (Pretend to sew)

Sing a Song of Halloween [3]
Sing A Song Of Halloween
(sung to: “Sing A Song Of Sixpence”)
Sing a song of Halloween,
What a scary night,
Ghosts and bats and big black cats,
Give us all a fright.
Shining jolly Jack-O-Lanterns
Fill our hearts with fun,
But if the black witch comes along,
We’ll all run!

Hay Ho Halloween is Here [4]
(sung to “The Farmer In The Dell”)
Oh, Halloween is here,
Oh, Halloween is here,
With costumes on we’ll walk around,
We’ll knock on doors all over town,
When Halloween is here.

Have a Happy Halloween [5]
Sung to the tune of “Clementine”
Have a happy, have a happy, have a happy Halloween.
Trick of treat some, then you’ll eat some,
Have a happy Halloween.
Counting cookies, counting candy, counting every jelly bean,
Have a happy, have a happy, have a happy Halloween.
Ring the front door, ring the back door,
Ride a broomstick in between,
Have a happy, have a happy, have a happy Halloween.

Twelve Days of Halloween [6]
Sing to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”:
On the first day of Halloween  my true love gave to me
an owl in a dead tree

2-trick or treaters
3-black cats
4-skeletons
5-scary spooks
6-gobblins gobbling
7-pumpkins glowing
8-monsters shrieking
9-ghosts a-booing
10-ghouls a-groaning
11-masks a-leering
12-bats a-flying

I’m a Little Scarecrow  [7]
(Tune: I’m a Little Tea Pot)
I’m a little scarecrow (Point to chest and sing)
Stuffed with hay
(Move right fist, then left fist across chest out in front of body as if
stuffing)
Here I stand in a field all day (Outstretch arms like a scarecrow)
When I see the black crows (Place right hand over eyes as if looking afar)
I just shout (Cup hands around mouth)
“Hey, you crows! You better get out!”
