Halloween Poems for Preschool and Daycare

by Carla on October 31, 2012

Celebrate Halloween your in-home family daycare or daycare center through fun poems that have with a Halloween theme. Consider teaching the following Halloween finger plays and poems in your child care center. They are great Halloween activities for circle time in your daycare and for your Halloween Party. You can also make up a tune and sing the poems.

Halloween is Almost Here [1]
Halloween is almost here
and I can hardly wait.
Halloween is almost here
and I can hardly wait.
When it’s time to trick-or-treat,
we’ll get lots of things to eat,
Halloween is almost here
and I can hardly wait.

Pumkin [2]
Piles of candy
Under the bed
Make for a delicious snack
People
Know
It’s been Halloween because
No one is without candy

Who’s that Knocking By Holly [3]
Who’s that knocking on my door
I must admit I’m little scared,
I open it and what do I see,
A scary old witch and she’s laughing at me
Hee hee hee

Who’s that knocking at my door
I must admit I’m a little scared
I open it and what do I see
A green monster and he’s growling at me.
GRRRR

 Halloween Counting Poem [4]
One scary witch is coming down the street.
She’s tapping at doors and calling,
“Trick or Treat!”

Two black cats
Appear at the gate,
With arched-up backs,
They watch and wait.

Three jack-o-lanterns sit grinning in a row,
Their candles flicker
An eerie glow.

Four bats awake and begin to fly,
Swishing and swooping
Across the sky.

Five tree stumps in the shadows deep
Crouch like monsters
Ready to leap.

Six orange leaves float down through the air,
They rustle and whisper,
“Beware, beware!”

Seven gray clouds hide the moon from sight,
They stop, they hover,
They darken the night.

Eight white objects twist and twine.
Are they ghosts or sheets
On a line?

Nine little field mice scatter and run.
Spooky nights
Are not much fun.

Ten owls smile– they know, you see.
It’s Halloween and the
Witch is ME!!

There’s a Spider on the Wall [5]
There’s a spider on the wall
If he’s careful he won’t fall
He moves slowly down the wall
I can watch him crawl and crawl
I wonder if he minds my stare
Or does he know and just not care?

Afraid of the Dark: A Halloween Rhyme [6]
Eeepity, creepity, oh what a fright!
Hiding from things that go BUMP in the night
Eeekity, squeakity, oh such a lark!
I wish I wasn’t afraid of the dark.

Jack O’Lantern, trick or treat
Scary costumes out on the street
Ghosts and ghoulies in the air
Stay inside, beware, beware!

Eeepity, creepity, oh what a scare!
Constantly wondering “who goes there?”
Eeekity, squeakity, turn on the light
I don’t like the dark on Halloween night!
