For very busy urban areas and cities, day care is one very popular set- up. With the busy and tough schedules of most families residing in urban cities, setting up of day care centres is really called for. The drawbacks of having busy schedules in urban areas are matched alongside the convenience of setting up a day care.

What exactly is daycare?
As it name implies, daycare refers to the service provided when taking care of a child by someone beside the parents of the child throughout the day. Right now, the popularity of day care is really rising in the United States. Painting like Picasso is not something taught in day care centers. What they will make your children do there is to participate in learning activities which can stimulate the development of your children.

What is the difference between day care and babysitting?

Babysitting is the temporary care given to a child only on occasions when the parents are not at home. Unlike babysitting, daycare provides regular care to the child. Child day care is done regularly while the parents are away for work. In contrast babysitting is done only on particular circumstances.

Before, child care used to be seen negatively. But nowadays, daycare service’s popularity is at the fore. This is probably because of the formality in the structure provided by the day care in extending child development, discipline and education. Some even provide pre- school services. Oftentimes, day care services can be extended within some specialized facility or even within your own home.

Accessories and Equipment Provided in the Day Care
For day care centres, first aid kits and medicine kits are really a must- have. As children play a lot, they are very prone to having small bruises and minor scratches. They can fall then scratch their knees. As these kinds of accident often happen to children as they run and play around, first aid kits are very handy.

If you have a day care, make sure that you keep a picture of each child’s parents or of the guardian’s child who should pick him or her up. This is an effective preventive measure to make sure that the children trusted in your child day care are safe from child molesters or any kind of abduction.

Children in your day care must each have sleeping mats. Usually, they take naps in daytime so your day care must have a napping room different from a playing room. Schedules and rules regarding napping time must be made so that children can take their naps. Toddlers and infants require special attention. This is why sleeping mats and other safe equipment must be provided to the children.

Since they like playing, you must give the children educational toys such as blocks as well as other toys safe for children. These toys must not have small parts which children can swallow causing chokes or worse, death. Make sure that playing toys or equipment outdoors are safe for them. Your house should be fenced and any kind of chemicals should be safely kept. They also like coloring books and drawings. Educational activities which children will enjoy are reading and drawing. Children easily get bored so you must also have educational programs and cartoon which you can make them watch sometimes. For outdoor activities such as swimming, make sure that you have an assistant who has a license and a certificate in performing CPR.

Ask the parents to bring their children food since they are the ones who know what the children love eating. The other equipment needed in day care centres for toddlers as well as infants are cribs, strollers, walkers and water dispenser for the child’s milk. For children aged four to six years old, they love playing with building blocks, coloring books, drawings, story books and toys. If you are interested in opening a day care center, make sure that you have all the necessary accessories and equipment needed.

When you are leaving your child in a daycare, it is important that you provide the daycare center with your information and details. This includes your contact numbers at home, at work and even your cellphone. This is to assure that wherever you are, the childcare center can contact and reach you in case an emergency occurs. For example, if your child has a sudden fever, an injury or any circumstance that requires your attention, the childcare will be able to reach you. Aside from your contact number, the daycare also assigns another emergency contact person in case you can not be contacted. So that in case of emergencies and you are not available, there will be someone who can fetch your kids. But, the contact person should also be informed so that they will be aware if someone calls them from the child care services. It is also important to that you should sign an authorization letter for the person who will take in charge of your child when you are not available.

In the daycare centers, you can also assure the safety of your children by making sure that the daycare follows the safety precautions. Poisonous substances must be placed in a safe storage to keep away from the children. Regulations from different states require that chemical substances and formulas to be put in a cabinet and locked up unless needed. This is to make sure that there are away from food that can poison the children and even the staff. Harmful substances that could possibly be present in the daycare center are limited to cleaning materials. Other substances can include medicine, vitamins and other home supplies. The staff must make sure that these substances are not lying around the center. When checking the daycare for your kids, make sure to ask them where harmful substances are kept to assure the safety of your kids.

When inside the daycare center, you must take note of the toys and tools that are present within their play area. Make sure that the toys will not pose any danger to the children. Take note whether the toys that are made from plastic do not contain lead and other harmful substances for your kids. Toys that contain sharp or pointed edges must also not be allowed in the daycare center. These toys can cause any kind of accident that would cause injury to the kids. The staff should also watch over the children at all times in order to prevent the kids from putting toys inside their mouth. The caregiver must take note of small object such as pebbles, coins and other small objects and if possible should be put away while the children are playing.

Another thing that you should take notice is the water temperature inside the daycare facility. You must make sure that there are labels in the faucet handles between hot and cold water to prevent your children from having scald and burns. There must also be a staff that will accompany them and supervise them at all times. A state law indicates that the maximum temperature should only be 120 degrees Fahrenheit for hot water to make sure that it is safe for the kids.

Learning should not be limited inside the classrooms of the children. Even when your kids are at home, they should still have fun and learning activities with you. But then, the daily tasks that you have to finish and get done usually hinder the time for you and your kids to spend some time together. The times when your kids offer their help in the daily chores and in the kitchen usually don’t end up being a success. Mostly likely than not, you refuse their offer and tell them to just play or watch the TV.

But come to think about it, the kitchen can also be a place for the kids to enjoy and learn new things. It is a perfect place where you can spend time with your kids at the same time do your chores. You can always let your kids help you with simple kitchen chores. They can learn about other things such as kitchen safety, basics about cooking, and the like. There are fun ways for them to spend time with you in the kitchen.

There are different fun ideas and activities which you can make to let your children be involved in the kitchen. Just make sure that the activities are safe and they will be capable to do so.

For young toddlers, you can let them play with plastic dishes, funnel and sponge at the sink. If you have a preschooler, you can teach him the basics about safety in the kitchen. You can let him peel a carrot using a peeler by peeling it away from the body. You can also teach the proper way of using the knife and chopping boars. With your supervision, you can let them slice a couple of times. You can even incorporate the things that they are learning in school such as measurements and fractions.

Another fun idea that you can enjoy with your kids is through making popcorns. You can prepare the popcorn, butter, salt and the bowl before you start the activity. You can explain to your kids how heat can make the corn pop and turn it into popcorn. Aside from that, you can also make popcorn balls with your children using different colors and flavours. Together with your kids you can decorate the popcorn balls using your imagination such as a snowman and the like. You can use carrots, raisins and other foods for the face of the snowman. Popcorn can also be used to make necklaces and bracelets when put together using a string. Stale popcorn is best for this kind.

You can also make dough for your children. Peanut butter play dough can be made using 18 ounce peanut butter. Then add six tablespoons of honey, some milk and flour to achieve the right consistency. You can let your kids play with the dough and mold them according to the shape that they like. You can also use a real dough and teach you kids how to knead.

Pizza is also a fun way to cook with your kids. Purchase ready made dough and the ingredients needed. You can assist them in pouring the sauce and let them add the topping according to their design. You can also teach them about shapes and colors using the ingredients.

Once you opt to leave your kids at a childcare center, there are still a number of concerns you have to consider. Childcare centers are business oriented facilities and thus, some of them overlook the value of cleanliness and hygiene. But still, there are ways to make sure your kids are healthy and protected.

In most childcare centers, the children share toys, restrooms and have lots of interaction with each other. You have to make sure that your child is free from infections and other communicable diseases. The simplest yet effective way to avoid such infections is by teaching your kids how to wash their hands. Washing of hands as often as possible will greatly decreased the threat of infection and diseases to your children. Make it easy for them to remember to watch their hands by teaching them a song that goes with it. In this way, they will have fun and stay protected as well. Giving them handkerchief to close their mouth while sneezing, is also another way of minimizing germs. The use of hand sanitizers and alcohol are also ways to make sure they are always protected.

You also have to check the guidelines and policies of the daycare center. Ask the capacity of the place and make sure that they are not overpopulated. Inquire about how they impose proper hygiene to the children in the center. It is best if they have encourage proper hygiene of the children by monitoring their cleanliness and reminding them to wash their after every activity. See to it that the cleanliness of the place is maintained and sanitized throughout the day. If all these requirements are followed then you can be assured that your kids are protected from germs and infections.

Aside from proper hygiene, proper diet also helps your children to be immune from infections. Food that contains phytonutrients such as fruits and vegetables help to fight germs. Thus, you have to check the kind of foods that are served in the childcare center. Make sure that they give your kids a healthy and balanced diet that strengthens their immune systems.

Make it also a habit that your children will have regular check-ups to their physicians. This will help in monitoring your child to make sure that they are healthy all the time. It is also a must that your kids are vaccinated to keep them protected from certain diseases.

Enough sleep and exercise is another way to keep your kids healthy. This will keep their immune system active and thus will keep them protected. Intake of plenty of water is also an effective way to keep healthy. This will keep you hydrated and healthy.

There are sure lots of ways to keep your children away from infections and always in good health. Whether they are in a childcare center or not, you should make sure that they follow the tips above. For sure, they will enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle ahead of them.

They are focused on earning money and saving up for the future of their family. This is why most mothers rely on day care centers to watch their children for them while they are away from home.

Kids are great and children can be adorable. Maybe you can watch a kid or two during your free time as a favor and enjoy it. You may even think to yourself that since you love children so much, why don’t you put up a day care business?

As with any business, you need to passion in order to succeed. You need to be sure that this is really what you want before starting. You need careful strategizing on how this business will go. Before anything, you need to fix the finance, how much capital you need to invest. You also need to device a specific day care accounting plan, as to what future expenses and liabilities you will need. Monitoring finances is a big factor when it comes to this, you need to ensure that you are giving the best service to you clients.

When you have finally decided to start a business, you need to think of the best location, purposes, accommodation, facilities, and benefits that you can give to your clients. First and foremost, the location must be chosen well. The best place to start a business is a place where there is not much competition. It will be useless to start a business where there are so many day care centers and that they may already have loyal clients. In this case, you need to build your name, find something unique in order to stand out and draw customers.

A plan is needed, what are the specific rules and regulations that you will implement. Of course, kids can be a little out of control at times and strict implementation of what must or must not be done should be followed. The facilities must be children-friendly, safe for them and will not cause harm when they run around the place since children have no concept of what could be dangerous for them. Toys and outdoor activities must be well planned, in order to ensure safety. There are so many things that kids enjoy but care must be taken care when they play with these.

Finding the employees and staff is one more thing that needs to be carefully chosen. Dealing with children requires physical, mental, emotional and social skills. There are so many things that need to be considered when kids are involved. This is the peak at which children learn so many things so what they learn at this stage, they will carry until they grow up. There are also thing that may traumatize them if there are bad experiences at this stage. They need to be alert and aware of the possible danger that the kids may get in. There must really be professional training for the people you hire.

We must be aware that danger is just waiting around the corner when it comes to kids. 24/7 surveillance must be done. Should accidents happen, you must have insurance ready. It is better to be safe than sorry. If they get into accidents, at least your clients are sure that you will take care of their children.

Further improvements must be kept in mind. Children have different needs and these are changing through time. You must be able to cope up with these changes or even have a wide selection of amenities for them. There must be toys, books, art materials and other things that make them feel at home.

With a high number of working mothers out there, there might be a chance that they will all rely on day care centers to take care of their children. It would be better if there is a limit on the number of children as well as the age of the children that you will accept per day. Too many kids can be stressful at times. You must have an idea on the number of children you are willing to accept since this will determine the size of the day care, number of toys, books and especially the number of staff that you will hire. They must only be enough to take care of the children. If there are too many children and the staff is not enough, then it will defeat the purpose of a dayc are. The reason why the parents leave their children to day care centers is because they need someone to be their eyes, the second mother. They must be sure that the day care centers give the same care that they are willing to give their children.

Also, you must need to be in touch with the parents. This is really important, if there are any problems when it comes to their children, you must inform the parents about this. You need to build trust with the parents to keep them coming back. As parents, they will really find it hard to entrust the safety of their children to someone else whom they do not even know. They should be aware of the situation of their children.

Most importantly, you need to know if there are any special requests that the parents have. You need to grant these requests or if not, at least come up with a compromise. You must inquire is there are any conditions that the children has that need special care or if any health concerns.

A daycare business is not as simple as building one for the kids. As fun as it may sound, this is still a business and there are so many things that must be considered in setting up a business in order to be successful. Just put your heart into it and you will be able to strategize well. Gather up everything you need and it will be a sure shot that your day care business will be a hit.

The summer season is here again. During this time, your kids will be home and free from school. As parents, you sure want to let your kids enjoy their summer vacation. Thus, here are some tips on how to make their summer memorable as possible.

Unleash their potentials. The summer vacation is a perfect time for your kids to discover their potentials in extra-curricular activities. Let them try new activities that they have never experienced before. Introduce them into a new sport or hobby such as Frisbee, soccer, martial arts, painting, cooking and photography. The more they try new things, the more they will learn about their abilities and skills. Aside from learning about themselves, it will also be a great time to meet new people and gain new friends.

Discover places. During school days, your kids spend most of their time at school and at home. This vacation will be the best time for them to travel and discover places they have never been to. Plan a vacation for the whole family. If you have budget, an out-of-the-country trip will surely make your kids enjoy their summer. Aside from that, there are also places where they would not just have fun but learn as well such as Ocean Adventure, Science Centrum, Museums etc.

Explore. Let your kids explore and experience new things on their own. It is also good for them to spend time away from you and have a sense of independence. Enroll them in summer boot camps where they will engage in team building activities that will teach them different values such as teamwork, patience, independence and a lot more. They maybe away from you for a couple of days but for sure they will enjoy and learn a lot from it.

Enhance their skills. Your children for sure have talents. Take advantage of their vacation and enhance their skills on activities they excel. Enroll them in workshops that would help them improve their talents. This will also help your kids to develop a sense of passion in things they like to do.

Spend quality time with them. On regular days, they spend time with you at home but it doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy. Make daily activities at home fun by involving your kids. Encourage them to do chores and give them simple rewards with the work they do. Let them also help in cooking and cleaning the household. In this way, they learn how to work while they spend quality time with you.

The summer need not to be boring for your children. Just follow and apply the tips and for sure your kids will enjoy. This will also strengthen your relationships with them. You would realize that there are lots of ways you can spend time and have fun with your kids.

The main duty of parents is to make sure their children are growing up safely, healthy, and to provide whatever it is they need. Another duty that is of primary importance is the responsibility to protect their little ones from all types of danger. The latter poses a big question mark.

Big time concern
In today’s normal family, the normal set-up is that both parents work. The wife works to complement the husband’s income. But that leaves no one to take care of the little ones. This is where the day care centre comes in.

Day Care Center. Those three words connote safety for parent’s children. But hold on to that thought because no one knows where danger hides, even in day care centres.

There is a growing concern from parents as facts show that many day care employees in day care centers are positive of having criminal records in their past. Even if the initiative to check the background of their employees is there, some day care centres forego this because of its high cost.

Peace of mind
Because of this concern, parents are advised to make doubly sure their child is kept in a reliable day care centre, and that their children are watched over by employees who will not compromise their child’s life and safety. Reliability is of utmost concern to most parents.

Here are tips on how to choose a reliable and safe day care centre:
•	Parents should check reputation of day care centre.

Number one the list is that parents need to make sure that the day care center they are considering has a great background and a great history as well. Parents can obtain information with the local government, government agencies, and the police to check if there have been any unfavourable incidents or complaints against the day care center.

•	Call the center’s past clients.

Calling up the centre’s past clients is an effective way of checking the day care centre’s credibility. It would be a big plus if you knew who to call like friends or family who had children taken cared of by the day care centre. Also, parents should be warned of planted past clients. These are fake clients who pose as previous clients and answer background check calls.

Background checks on the day care centres’ employees.

Obtaining background checks show important information such as criminal and medical records, educational records, employment history, bank reports, driving violations, drug test results, police records, and many other records.

Background checks, are very effective methods by which a parent or parents will know if the employees in a day care center is capable and reliable enough to keep their children safe.

•	Meet with the manager and employees for some of their personal information. Relying on the background check of these employees is good. But to meet with them and to talk to them is another way to judge whether these people are safe enough to have around the children. Unannounced visits are good. A conversation with the people involved is a good gauge whether the parents deem them safe or not.

•	Do an ocular inspection of the day care centre.

Not only do employees of day care centre pose danger to a parents’ child, but the facility and environment as well. Give due priority to cleanliness, safety and hazard free. Regarding cleanliness, parents should consider looking at the day care centre’s bathrooms, janitors, and water source.

With their children in safe hands in a safe e environment, parents can now have peace of mind while they go about their daily lives.

Day care center teachers should always practice, model and reinforce kid’s behaviors by giving positive attention on their needs and by helping them understand the consequences of their action.

Kids in day care age are in the process of learning and practicing age-approriate manners which includes understanding behavious acceptable in public, proper friendship manners as well as meeting, greeting others and table manners.

So during this time, day care teachers and providers should help their students maintain proper decorum and manage their unacceptable behaviors. This could be a bit difficult especially when handling children, but here are a few tips to consider –

Being a model and providing positive reinforcement
Teachers should model behaviors such as using their “indoor” voice. It is also important to always use an instructional attitude with preschooler such as saying “You may do that at home but we do it differently here” or “we don’t say that word here.”

Give positive attention to the needs of the child, however, bad behaviour should not receive positive attention – attention should be focused on the need. A child sometimes feels that he is left out and does things like pushes or hits in their attempt to be included. This attention needs to be paid to the desire to play and belong. A child’s inner turmoil only increases when you give negative attention to an appropriate behavior. A child care provider should always keep in mind that punishment only adds insult to injury while positive attention goes a long way.

Inappropriate Behavior should be corrected
A day care teacher should always exercise discretion when correcting inappropriate manners. Talking to a preschooler in private is one great skillful ways of nipping the bad behavior of the child. Preschoolers are becoming more aware and concerned with their peer’s opinions and they can be easily embarrassed. Confronting and correcting bad behaviors should be done in private by smart preschool teachers.

Day care providers should also help the children understand the consequences of their actions. It had always been encouraged that teachers to allow the consequences to teach the child. For instance, if one of the day care children is hitting someone, a teacher can simply step in and say something like, “I can’t let you hit your classmates. Since you are hitting you seatmate, you must move away from these children.” Then the teacher moves the child to another part of the room. Doing this consequence teaches the child that inappropriate aggressive behaviour can result to removal from the group.

Children should also be given choices when day care providers are solving some problems. It is also considered a great strategy for problem solving. So provide them with choices and ask the kids what can work so that things will work out for both of them. Let them come up with ideas before telling them what should be done.

Though many kids are continuously learning manners in their own homes, preschool teachers should consider themselves instruments in teaching and reinforcing manners. Soon as these kids complete preschool, they will learn more about manners that are acceptable and unacceptable.

A lot of people thinks that loving kids and having a nice home is the key to having one of the popular in-home or in-house daycare business. But really it takes a lot more than that.

However, loving children is of one of the key factors to having a day care business as you will be spending most of your time with them. And if you have your children at home, you have to think about how an in-home daycare center will will affect them. Although usually, it could be a great combination for everybody involved, there are still obstacles that you will experience. You need to think about the things that will most likely affect your family the most.

If one kid doesn’t like sharing, you will be having a lot of problems to handle if he will do it on a regular basis. But if you are great at handling this sort of problems then it won’t really bother you one bit. So setting up an in-house daycare center is a wonderful business for you.

When it comes to starting an in house daycare center, you would need an in depth researching. You have to find out if your state requires a license for in-house day care businesses. And how many children are permitted for you to care for. You will also need to know if you will be requiring any changes or renovations to be made in your home. Different states have different rules and regulations on these things, so know that your state requires before investing in something like the great backyard playhouse you saw on sale on the Internet.

In house daycare business may also be required to have a CPR certification. And even if it doesn’t, you will definitely want to become certified in CPR and first aid. You will never know when accidents will happen, and you really need to be prepared for them.

Certifications are also al big help in case you ever find yourself in a lawsuit. Presenting your certifications, not just to the parents of the children you care for but with law enforcers as well, show that you are dedicated and really serious about your in-house day care business.

You will also need to look into liability insurance. Check with your current insurance company about your homeowner’s insurance and find out what kind of protection does it provide for accidents that may happened in you property. Policies may have different payouts and processes if you have a home business so check it out first before you start your daycare.

And like any other home based businesses, you might also want to prepare a business plan for your day care. You need to plan for accounting as well as tax expenses, and back up care providers as well as needed equipment and insurance. If you plan to expand your day care soon, you have to set aside a certain amount from your profits for this. You may also have to set aside some money for entertainment expenses such as field trips for your day care children (you need to have proper permission slips of course).
