When one of the kids under your care starts mimicking behaviour that you don’t like and realizes that it he have learned it from other kids, take care not to criticise the other child. You have to realize that this kid probably admires the kids or a quality that the child has.

What you need to do is talk to him or her about his friend and make it clear to him that his friend is wonderful but it is his behavior that is not good. Tell this kid that everyone has bad habits and that what we need to do is to overcome them and not imitate them.

Bad Behavior Reports
Sometimes, a child would be an angel at home but acts aggressively at the day care or on other large group situations, this maybe because the child is overwhelmed by the situations.

Discuss with the parent and find out how and when incidences occur. The child may be acting this way to secure attention and even negative attention from his friends and the daycare providers. If the aggressive behaviour happens when someone is being given more attention, then the child may need to be moved to another procvider where there is a smaller group and where the child can have one on one attention.

Kids usually need this extra attention until they are ready emotionally to interact with larger groups. Kids mature emotionally at different rates and it is advisable to let them progress comfortably.

Praising Good Behavior
Whenever children in your daycare go out of their way to accomplish something special, be sure that you praise the outcome. Put the focus on their accomplishment rather than the child and help them understand that they can do anything they put their mind into.

When it comes to praises, always remember to accentuate the positive rather than constantly criticizing the child’s negative behaviour, praise his positive actions!

Separation Anxiety
For parents, be positive each time you prepare to leave your child in daycare. Make sure that it becomes a part of your ordinary routine and make that you don’t keep on issuing reminders like it is a special event. This will only heighten your child’s anxiety.

So when you go drop off your child in preschool or daycare, go in and say hi to the staff as well as the other kids and then say goodbye. Don’t stay too long or seem like in a hurry to be away from your child so as not to give them the impression that you are running away.

If your child is suffering from separation anxiety, you should be aware that though you have always came back for your child, they are unable to conceive the time can make your child fear your “disappearance.”

Your kid can overcome this issue by coming to realize that this is a normal routine. So establish a regular routine for getting ready to do to the center. It should be at the same time everyday so that it becomes something that your child can look forward to and learns that your coming back is a part of that regular routine.

As parents, we need to be a good model to children and show them the things we enjoy doing or learning – whatever we are passionate about whether it is reading, taking classes or doing hobbies and crafts. If they see that we enjoy learning new things, they are more likely to enjoy it too.

A day care is a business with many legal guidelines and requirements that need to be observed at all times. Many businesses sadly are unaware of these responsibilities in the ownership and management of a day care facility. As an owner and manager, one would have many duties to respond to avoid the many consequences laws were designed to prevent.

The real interest of the facility must be checked on at all times. One must be fully aware of all the responsibilities that need be met when running one’s own day care facility. All the responsibilities must be considered and in order to be successful, all responsibilities, both as a business and a legal entity must be observed. When one cuts corners and an accident occurs, the owner would be liable for the full cost of the injury. So keeping one’s nose clean by following all the rules would be likely result in great success for the business. This is gained by finding out the state, city and local legislation, including the child services administration for the operation of the business.

First off, one needs to get a business license and each state, county and locality have differing rules on its requirements. Find out from your local office’s small business administration department as to the requirements in obtaining a license. And the special needs of a day care needs to be addressed. With one’s compliance with the set guidelines under the law, one not only protects the business, but more importantly the children under one’s care and management. Failure to comply makes one liable administratively and criminally and be blacklisted for future operations.

Background checks are also imperative. All the personnel must have no criminal records and their qualifications must make them experts in the field of child care. Some other states require formal first aid training and CPR certification. The Red Cross can provide these for a minimal fee. In running a day care, one needs these specialized trainings to be better prepared against an accident if and when it occurs. Also, one needs to be certified by a nutritionist as to the food being prepared and the health safety inspector to determine that there are no hazards to the children while at the facility.

One needs to pass the inspection of the facilities. This is to ensure the safety, adequacy and environmental soundness of the facility. Medications need to be at arms reach, fire extinguishers that are ready, and the safe handling and storage of harmful chemicals need to be observed. The inspection will look at every nook and cranny of the facility in order to be assured that the day care center is a safe place where children can play and learn. Once all the minimum requirements have been met, a certificate for operation would be issued. This is the stamp of approval which allows the facility to receive children and operate as a business. So to make this happen, one needs to prepare to facilities to comply with the requirements of the laws on day care facilities.

Operating a day care business entails a lot of work and sacrifice. The long list of things to be done never seem to end. Aside from the business planning, area designing and marketing to obtain clients, management of the business is also an essential factor in the daily tasks for the business. Here are some ways to effectively manage one’s day care business.

1)	For the child. The area within one’s home or office has been designated for the business of the day care. In this designated area, a play area has been designed and created for use by the children. To effectively manage the business, one needs to allot a small area for work on running the business. It is in this area that one manages the tax payments, paperwork for the personnel, regulatory matters and marketing. This serves as your business nerve center.

2)	Separate life. Since this is a home based business, one needs to make a separate calendar for personal and professional business. If one mixes up things, then the result would be being unable to address issues as a business person rather than a private person. Another option is opening a separate bank account for business income and expenses. This would ensure that there would be no commingling of funds. Separation must also include telephone and PC usage so that there would be no mix up in the expenditures and usage of items.

3)	Time manage. Being unable to properly manage one’s time would result in time being wasted. One needs to be disciplined about the time spent and one must keep watch over how time is spent. Scheduling activities for the day care and seeking out assistance from other family members would help make life a little easier. Also important is one needs to allot time for the management of the business and for rest and recreation. One needs to recharge every so often if one looks after several bundles of joy.

4)	Personal time. The misconception that if one works from home one is readily accessible for visits from family and friends. This can clearly affect the scheduled timetable one has for the business. Thus one needs to inform these loved ones that even if one is at home, one is still at work and only the venue changes. Make them realize that as a business professional, one needs the time to handle the business and avoid further distractions. Once this happens, have them leave a message and a promise that one will get back to them when one is free from work.

Effective management of the daycare business can be done if one has the desire for it. Having a space for children and for work, making a separate life between business and personal matters, proper time management and having personal time would be the factors to consider to make this happen. This personal development, together with cooperation would make one an effective manager of one’s own day care center.

A home-based day care business entails a lot of work. Effective management is thus key in making he business flourish. One must understand the intricacies and demands of the business in order to make an effective business plan which is cost efficient and attuned to the client’s needs. While drafting the business plan, finding a suitable day care area in one’s home is crucial and finding the clients to engage one’s services are also great factors that would determine the success or failure of one’s business. Listed below are some tips for the effective management of a home-based day care facility.

After designating the particular area where the day care activities would be done, one must particularize the areas for the children. There must be a play area, where group activities are to be held, a eating and rest area where a child may opt to eat or rest while in the care of others. Always overlooked is an office area where one needs to make business decisions, filing area and other activities needed to operate the business and manage the facility. This area is where all the paperwork for permits, taxes, licenses and other operational issues are to be worked on. Also, separate the business of operating a day care with one’s personal business. A separate phone line and bank account are simple ways to make this separation. The phone line would address asll day care needs while a separate phone book and checking account would be answering all the financial requirements in operating the business. Having a separate room away from the day care area, with a personal computer would be basic necessities in order
that one can manage the state of affairs of the business.

Another limited resource that needs to be managed effectively is time management. One needs to set aside time for the work, the business after work and one’s personal life. If one is unable to make this proper scheduling, one would not b able to address the thousand and one needs of the business and one would end up being unable to finish anything. Slotting particular hours for the day care itself and a few more for the business would be a start. Also, allot time for the family activities and even use some chores for quality time. List some break times and quiet times for one’s self so that one can be recharged every so often. Remember, child care is a very taxing business.

One disadvantage of a home-based business is the sudden visits friends and family make. Though this is may affect one’s schedule, duly informing everyone of the work time while at home is important to make one’s schedule work. Making them all realize that even if one is at home, one is at work and thus may be unable to make small talk and chit chat. Also, a different business phone would effectively make working free of any distractions.

These are but some of the small ways one can manage one’s business effectively. Balancing one’s work and personal life may be a juggling act but with their cooperation and a lot of discipline one is able to make this work effectively. Careful evaluation of one’s needs and concerns are crucial to make the balance work. Some tough policies need to be instituted and may take some time and effort to be accepted but these are but necessities in any kind of business.
