<p>It is always scary and challenging both for parents and providers to look at the first day in daycare. It is always a big day for everyone concerned – the mom, child and the care provider. First times and first days are always both exciting and terrifying experiences so it is always best to be prepared for the big day and make the transition a smooth one.<br />

Moms should start preparing the child in advance that it’s going to be a great adventure in day care and that they will have lot of new friends and fun games.  These should however be kept low key and not overdone as it could overwhelm the child. </p>
<p>Day care providers can, on the other hand, provide moms with a list of first names of the children in day care as well as the carers and suggest having role playing with dolls so that everything will be more familiar with the child on her first day.</p>
<p>Moms should also start fostering independence in the child weeks before by visiting friends, washing their own hands. At the same time, providers should encourage mom and her child to visit the center a few times before finally starting to allow the child to absorb the environment. </p>
<p>Snacks, change of clothes, comfort toys should be packed by moms for the day and make sure that everything is labelled. It is also advisable to have everything paid and for the forms to be completed before the big day so that these will no longer distract you. Moms should also have plenty of time to get ready in the morning of the first day and prepare a good breakfast with some chat about the great adventure ahead. </p>
<p>When a new child is starting at a center, provider should take on an extra hand to focus on distracting and comforting the new child. It is advisable to have the new child start when everyone else has settled into their morning activities as starting off first thing in the morning may upset the child.</p>
<p>Moms should also allow the child to help in packing his back and carrying it. Mom should walk into the center while holding the hand of the child – not carrying him. Providers should encourage this to avoid having the  “peeling child off the parent” scene.</p>
<p> Daycares should also have a settling period where child can stay for gradually longer periods. Moms can stay around but involvement should be discouraged. Moms should take a backseat and just observe other than interact with the child activity. During the settling period, the child should have a one on one support. The child may just want to sit and observe a while before eventually joining group activities, he should be allowed to go at his own pace. When the mom leaves, providers should distract the child or usher him off to some exciting activity. </p>
<p>On the first day, the mom can settle in by staying in the room with the child and letting him do his own thing and simply remaining in sight. Test your child’s reactions by stepping out of the room for a while saying that you need to make a call or just in the hall. Let the staff distract your child for a while and watch his reaction from a distance. When you need to go to the car or get some coffee, give your child a quick kiss and say mommy will see you later. If the child cries out, don’t look back as your child will soon stop crying and will be distracted with play and activities.</p>

<p>Being called a babysitter is considered degrading by most childcare provider and preschool teachers. Many of them have acquired education in their field and takes pride in providing these children with a curriculum at the same time providing tender loving care. To keep a quality relationship with these important people in your child’s life, you should not forget to address them as preschool teachers, childcare provider or as day care professionals.<br />

If you want to give gifts, you may simply give individual cards to show your appreciation to each provider; however, you can give a single gift certificate or card for the center itself which they can use to buy something that they really need. </p>
<p>For instance, a gift certificate can be used to buy a battery operated light for the changing table in the toddler room. This way they can change diapers without waking up all the children in the room and make it easier for the staff and the children as well. Day care facilities are usually poorly funded and though they can be clean, bright and modern, they still tread on a fine financial line. That’s why giving gift card for the center would work as real boost. You may try getting certificates somewhere like WalMart and other discount stores so they can choice over the things they need to buy. </p>
<p>You should also find out from your provider if there is a parent’s regular group meeting. If none exists, you can start organizing a parent’s group for the purpose of communicating ideas, thoughts and concerns regarding the care of your children as well as the chance to get to know the families of the children your child plays with. You can schedule meetings at least once a month and usually, the center is happy to sponsor the meetings. Action groups can positively influence the quality of care provided and give valuable insight to both parents and staff as to what needs to be improved on the level of care. Even if the quality of care is already good, it doesn’t meant that they can’t be improved.</p>
<p>When you need to ask questions, be straight to the point. Providers should keep a communication log or daily report that can be helpful, and if they have none, don’t hesitate to suggest it. If they have and it is still not enough for you, don’t be afraid to ask what you need to know. It is their job to know and let you know.</p>
<p>And lastly, it is very important to maintain a good speaking term with the child’s provider and this should go beyond mere pleasantries. You may open a dialogue with your child’s carer and show your interest in knowing your child’s progress and your confidence in them as a daycare professional. Being open in communications allows you to have the earliest possible involvement in solving any issues that may arise as well as your carer’s confidence that they have your full support. This relationship can be easily started through constant greetings and helping your child to make cards for his carer on holidays and birthdays. Say hello to your child’s carer when you see them in public places, make them feel valued and happy as they would work harder and happier.</p>

<p>Seeing your kid go to his daycare center for the first time can be your big source of happiness and stress. The experience is both terrifying and exciting. On the other hand, the first day is also one of the most anticipated moments of any daycare provider but aside from the excitement, there is the feeling of tension. For both the parents and the providers to deal with the process competently here are some considerations :<br />

As a mom, it is best to prepare your kids in advance about the things that is in store for him at the daycare. Steer clear the sense of curiosity but allow him to feel excited to finally leave his cocoon so he will be able to discover the outside world away from your house. Tell him that there will be a lot of friends and games. However, keep it low since overdoing the whole thing can overwhelm your child. For the provider, it would be helpful to give moms the first name of their kids. Allow the kids to play with dolls or toy cars during the first day to break down the tension felt by students. </p>
<p>It is important for moms to foster independence by allowing the kid to wash their own hands and other things. As much as possible, accompany your kid to the center at least a couple of time before the classes finally starts so your kid can absorb the environment better. </p>
<p>Pack everything that your kid will need during his first day at school such as a pack snack, comfort toys, changing clothes, and always ensure that everything is labelled. Kids tend to be too careless at times hence it is better for you to label his items to prevent the possibility of getting lost. Ensure that all forms are completed and all payments are settled to avoid being abstracted by these tasks. Wake up earlier than the usual so you will have lots of time to prepare everything. <p>If your kid suggests that he would like to help in packing his belongings, allow him to do so. When you arrive at the daycare center, hold his hands while you walk together through the room. Do not carry him since most kids would become afraid to let go after knowing that they have to stay on the new place without his mother. </p>
<p>Stay on the room during the first day; be always near his sight so he would feel comforted by your presence. If he wants to go out and be with you, allow him to do so for a few minutes but insist later on about his needs to stay inside the room. Be persistent but loving enough so your kid will feel comforted. </p>

Hiring personnel is easy but getting the right person for the job is a difficult matter.  You must hire a person who will be able to care for the children in your center in the same manner that you do.  The following are some guidelines when hiring a child care provider:</p>
<p><strong>1.	Experience is important but it should not be the only factor to consider in hiring. </strong>Character references provided by relatives or friends whom the applicant has babysat for will give you a good idea if the applicant can handle the job he is applying for.  An applicant can have many years of experience but if he cannot provide any good character reference, you still cannot be sure if he is the right person you are looking for. </p>
<p><strong>2.	Ask if the applicant is willing to commit to the job for a long time.</strong> He might be interested only in getting some experience in your daycare center and leave afterwards. A daycare service should provide love, consistency, and reassurance that the children are in a safe environment.  Constant changes of personnel will create the opposite impression.  Parents will not feel secured every time they see a new care provider for their children. Children also will not feel comfortable in the presence of a new person caring for them.</p>
<p><strong>3.	Provide a detailed job description to the person you are going to hire. </strong>Before he starts working, you have to make clear with him what his duties and responsibilities will be.  This could prevent any misunderstanding that might arise if the new hire is not really sure of what he is supposed to do. You have to be patient in explaining and repeating to your new employee everything that he has to learn and understand.  You cannot relax until you are sure that he has the feel of his job.</p>
<p><strong>4.	Have a probation period, from 30 to 60 days, for the new hire to find out if he is really cut for that position.</strong> This is the period to observe your new employee to see whether he really has genuine interest and love of children. His patience with children will also be tested during this probation period. If the new hire is not performing well or is unable to relate to the children he is caring for, the best and only option is to terminate his services. Do not be afraid to do it as you are protecting the interest of your business as well as the interest of the children under your care.</p>
