One of the seemingly easy ways to gain additional income is by opening your own home day care center. With home day care, you only need your own house as the center for kids and some tools needed for caring toddlers and kids. Though it appears so easy, home day care business can be difficult or easy depending on how you set it up. To guide you in establishing this kind of business, here are some of the things you need to consider:

Competitive advantage – Nowadays, a number of childcare services are closing in the first year of their operation due to rules and regulations they did not followed. That is why if you’re planning to start up this kind of business, make sure that you understand all the rules and regulations set for proper and safe child care. Also, find ways how to have an edge and advantage over your competitors to be on the top of the game. Think of nice publicity stunts and catchy advertisements in promoting your business and make sure you have all the knowledge you need to run your business.

The number of children you will take care of. Even if more number of children in your home care center would mean bigger income for you, you still have to consider the available space you have in your home to occupy a specific number of children. Usually, there are laws set on the number of children you can take care of in you home day care. Make sure that you follow all of those rules to ensure the safety and welfare of the children you’re taking care of, and to avoid future legal complications.

The materials you will need in your home day care. In creating a home day care business, you must decide what type of toys, books, and learning materials you will need to keep the children busy. To know this, you need first to decide what range of age of children you would want to take care. Since the toys and materials you will need are based on the age of the children you will be taking care of, the learning activities and plays and games you will provide for the children should also complement their age.

Additional help. If you see that the number of children you’re taking care of is increasing but still following the limit set by the law, you might decide to get an extra help. Since children need much attention during their playtime and outdoor activities, you may consider hiring additional employee to help you watching out the children. By this way, you will not only assure that all the kids under your care are safe, you will also be eased of the load of taking care of a number of children in your home day care.

A Simple Introduction To Child Care At Home
The activities of a daycare centre are programmed to help your child in his or her development. These activities are often simple things that a parent can do when they are at home. Just remember that when you do these activities to your children, repetition is the key. Repetitive activities are more instrumental in a child’s learning.

An important thing to remember is that not all children in a daycare have the same capacity to learn. The thing is those who are a little advanced in learning can not go one step ahead of the other children. This is why it is important to know that the age groups are the determining factor of a child’s learning ability in a daycare. The interest level of these children may not be at the same level with each age group. Like not all activities done by toddlers work for the babies age group.

The Age Group Pattern
The age groups are arranged in the following manner…

-	The babies ages ranges from newborn to a year old.

-	The toddler age group ranges from a year old to three

-	And the preschool age group ranges from three years old to five.

The good thing about these daycare activities is that they are different from one age group to another. Loud reading activities are very good activities. This is a good activity even when you do this at home because it requires the use if an illustration book which when the child sees, he will identify the words phonetically. Written are more the focus of children in the higher age groups. This will also allow you to interact with the child as you can already ask them to identify in spoken language what these words are. The trick here is to transfer some of the reading process to your child. And soon, your child will start recognizing the forms of the letters and to some extent the whole word. And when she is familiar with a certain word, you can point at it everytime you two encounter that word.

For every age group, the year starts with the listing if what the child has accomplished and what are the behaviours the child has developed. Then you can follow this with another list containing the things that you can do to help your child develop and learn more. Then again, you should always remember that different children learn at different rates and that the age grouping is just a guide.

There are a few tips in doing these activities. First, you have to integrate the element of fun when doing these activities with your child. You can do this by being energetic and enthusiastic about the activities. When the child feels the fun in doing the activity, then the learning will follow naturally. Second, you can do some activities that are designed for a specific age group with children in other age groups. And lastly, it is important that you look for activities that will spark the interest of your child. Do not pick out activities that the child finds difficulty in doing.

Choosing the right child care provider is crucial. It is indeed important to know all the options available for such service. There are four providers that can be considered in your options.

1. Relatives, Neighbors and Friends. This option is usually called “Kith and Kin” in which closer people are chosen to be the care provider for the child, usually takes place in the home of the child or of the care provider. Parents can choose to allot their time by scheduling their work and child care.

People, specifically parents, find this option advantageous because of different reasons. They think that relatives and friends will provide more sincere and secure care for their child. Also, they believe that these people will instill good family values to their child. Constraints like tight schedule and budget, problems on transportation sometimes lead parents to choose this kind of option.

Regulations in this kind of child care differ from state to state. Criminal history screening like child abuse checks, clearances, and minimal safety and health trainings are sometimes required by some. However, many have no strict regulations on this child care option.

2. Family Child Care. Child care provider’s home is the setting for this option. Sometimes, parents seek for referrals from trusted friends before availing of this. Parents find this beneficial for their child because of the environment that is home-like it offers and smaller number of children in it.

Compared to the option earlier described, states are stricter when it comes to regulation. Requirements are necessary like conformation to certain set standards on safety, nutrition and health; trainings before child care and alongside with it; passing certain inspections; and checking of criminal records.

3. Home-based Caregivers. In this child care option, caregivers stay in the home of the child to be taken care of. Examples of caregivers are housekeepers and nannies. Parents having several children find this more practical because one caregiver manage to handle them. They also find this option better because it is more convenient and they have more control on the safety, security, and caring to their child.

Some states apply minimal regulation on this type of child care, especially the placement agencies for home-based caregivers. Some also require subsidies for the caregivers, and also checking of criminal records, securing of clearances, and undergoing safety and health trainings. But most of the states do not pose regulations for this option.

4. Child Care Centers. Centers providing this type of child care cater to a much larger number of children. Parents who choose this kind of care believe that there is a higher level of safety and dependability because of greater state inspections and regulations and the integrity of the center. They also believe that learning will be better facilitated by greater number of staff, equipments, space and organization of activities.

Licensing, which depends on the state, is required to child care centers based on safety and health standards.

When it comes to evaluation of the child care provider your child is into, there are a set of criteria you should consider to gauge its quality. The criteria are listed below.

For general evaluation:
•	practices on discipline
•	enjoyment of children
•	fulfillment of children’s needs for comfort
•	license and conformation with regulations
•	openness to surprise parent visits
•	suitability of your child

For the evaluation of the caregivers:
•	interest on caring for the children
•	ability to reach out to the child’s level
•	amiability
•	quick accommodation of the needs of children
•	safety skills like first aid, CPR, and others.
•	education and training
•	ability to cope with varying interest of children
•	openness to questions and readiness to answer such
•	reporting of the child’s progress
•	openness to parents’ involvement
•	acceptable staff-child ratio, whose standard is set by local experts

For the setting evaluation:
•	conducive atmosphere
•	manageability and safety of area and equipment
•	enough space for all the activities

For the evaluation of activities:
•	balance of activities
•	appropriateness of activities to different age groups
•	supply and safety of equipments

Daycare is where you drop your child off with a giver, and is a huge way for your kid to be able to socialize if you’re in a circumstance wherein there aren’t other kids around. It is highly suggested that you check your state and local regulations before enrolling your child in a center or home daycare. The geographic limitations, and the variety in type of daycare providers, make child daycare a highly disjointed industry. This leads to the annoyance for parents who are trying to find quality child daycare, with 87% of them relating the traditional search for child daycare as “difficult and frustrating”. There are several local industry associations that lobby governments on childcare policy, endorse the industry to the public or help parents decide which daycare provider to hire. In some cases, good daycare can offer different experiences other than parental care, especially when children reach two and are ready to interrelate with other children. As a matter of social strategy, consistent, good daycare, may ensure adequate early childhood education for children of less skilled parents.

Childcare

The vast mainstream of childcare is still performed by the parents, in house nanny or through relaxed arrangements with relatives, neighbors or friends. For instance, in Canada, among two parent families with at least one working parent, 62% of parents hold the childcare themselves, 32% have other in-home care (nannies, relatives, neighbors or friends) and only 6.5% use an official day care center. There are some home daycares’ that run an unlawful operation with reagrd to tax legislation where the supplier does not report inward fees as income and the parent does not receive a receipt to qualify for child care chargeable deductions. Under the current law, educators and childcare workers at daycare centers, schools, and other organizations need to have their backgrounds checked. According to provinces and cities some shortages of subsidized openings can lengthen the time needed to find an appropriate childcare provider. Almost all areas of the country reported a rise in the costs parents have to pay for all types of childcare, when they can find it. On-going high costs of child care emphasize the utmost need to finance services more successfully. The government needs to support affordable quality childcare which is provided nearby through the voluntary, public and independent sectors, and meets the requests of parents.

Placing your child in a daycare can be a worrying decision for any parent as in most cases they’re factually giving all their trust to a foreigner to look after their child. Verify with local governments to make sure the day care facility has a good standing track record with little documented complaints. The day care business is spread vast and may be cost-effective if you decide to utilitize the business from home.

There couldn’t be any nobler job than in having one that is purposively done to care for others and not just to earn profit. Working in a daycare center or starting a daycre center to a higher note is just one of those noble jobs. Spending your time voluntarily to care for small children is bravery in itself if not heroism.

A daycare business as we all know is a very lucrative venture. Many people have opted to start up one because of the high demand for childcare services. Daycares have become the backbone for the United States working population. The IRS is responsible in making sure that a portion of your lucrative business’ incomes is paid as tax.

Trust no one. Most daycares are operated and owned by more than one person. To defray the cost of investment, someone who is thinking to put up a daycare business will automatically look for a partner. But there have been misfortunate cases that one embezzles what you two have painstakingly earned leaving you nothing but a burden to carry alone—that is tax debt. Technically, both of you will be liable for the tax debt but since your partner has already run off with the money, you are left alone to take care of your business’ tax debt. Now, how will you be bale to this if you do not have the money to settle your debt? How will be able to sustain your operations and keep the business?

Here are some things you can consider:

*	Because you do not want what happened and with the reason that you have been the victim for having such an irresponsible partner, your tax debt can be lowered. Businesses which have been a victim of embezzlement or theft are given leniency by the IRS such as in the removal of your penalties. But since only 20 percent up to 30 percent can be deducted from your tax debt because of the removal of penalties, you are still mandated to pay for the rest of your tax debt.

*	After you have already settled your tax debt, you should look at other means on how to avoid extra expenses in the business so that it will easier to pay your tax debt next time. Consider shifting to a home childcare business. You can save more money when you operate your daycare business in a home setting because you will no longer be spending much on equipment, among others. Your operational expenses when you run the business home-based will be cut down significantly.

*	You can utilize your home resources for your daycare business and vice versa. You can save a lot because the two will actually be helping each other. You can also claim a part of your daycare business income to subsidize your expenses for food and mortgage.

By doing these, you have not only saved your business but you can also continue to give services to the children whom you truly acre for.

Characteristics: Good and Bad
Since day care fund raisers can be very difficult to organize and plan, the organizers will need to apply a genius day care fund raising idea to utilize and make the activity successful. For better and positive results, organizers should stick to the tried and tested ideas for a day care fund raising activity as new and untested ideas might jeopardize the fund raising activity. Next, the organizers should device ways and steps to help them achieve their plans of holding a day care fund raising activity. Steps such as which sponsors to approach and how to approach them, or how to broach the plan to the day care children’s parents are very important.

A lot of day care fund raising activities settle for tacky, unheard of ideas, only because the organizers want to be different. But these unheard of ideas usually bring in unfavourable results. The bad thing is that it’s not just the day care that suffers, but the children more importantly. It is so very difficult to come up with a new and good idea for a fund raising activity. But whatever the case may be, there are certain characteristics of what a good day care fund raising activity should be. What are these characteristics of a good day care fund raising idea? Add to that, what are the fund raising ideas that would usually work on normal and regular fund raisers but does not work for a day care fund raising activity? Some great fund raising activity ideas are sale, benefit dinner, yard sales where the children and parents can participate as sales persons.

Look for the Best Bargain
Just like with most fund raising events, the best day care fund raising activity idea always does not require the organizers to shell out cash in the planning stage. Most day care centres always use fund raising activity sales in order to come up with funds for the day care centre maintenance cost and the children needs, like playground facilities water and food. This applies if the items to be sold in the day care fund raising activity were gotten by the organizers for free from contributions and donations. In other words, these items were donated by sponsors or individuals. If this is not the case, then the organizers will have to shell out cash up front to pay for the items to be sold in the day care fund raising activity. In this arrangement, the organizers will have to come up with a mark-up range or percentage. For every sale made, the organizers should take back the cost of each item and give the profit, to the day care centre director as funds donated for the day care centre and its children enrolees.

This can be a good idea if the day care centre has enough funds, but in this case, failure becomes an option, particularly because there is a good chance that the organizers might not be able to sell all the items. And history states hat they will not sell all of the items. Thus sending all their efforts, and if ever, the children’s and parents’ efforts as well, down the drain.

Donations are Good
Facts show that the best way to hold fund raising sales is to sell items that were collected through donations. The perfect example, parents can bake goodies from their homes and bring these to the organizers. The baked goods can be pies, tarts, dough nuts etcetera. These goodies are given by the parents to the organizers for free as donations. In this scenario, the day care will not need to spend cash up front. The organizers of the day care fund raising activity can also ask for used items from the children’s parents. Clothes, toys, books, gadgets, furniture, among other things, may be dropped off on a particular day, and then sold on the day of the day care fund raising activity.

Organizers can also seek the help of professional fund raising organizers. It is normal practice that these professionals collect a certain percentage of all the revenues gathered from the day care fund raising activity. Their professional fee will be strictly taken from the revenue and not from the day care centre’s share of the funds produced. The day care’s share is its’ own and will go to its’ bank account for the care and maintenance of its facilities and salaries or allowances or personnel.

Considering Safety Is Good
The organizers are advised to come up with children-safe ideas and activities for the fund raising activity as these activities will certainly involve the day care fund raising activities’ target market, the children. Ones a child’s safety is compromised, the organizers should be held responsible and should assume responsibility. Safety precautions should also be considered for the parents. As with the children’s safety, the organizers should be held responsible in case a parents’ safety has been compromised. The organizers again should assume responsibility. With parental advice and strict watch, a benefit dinner can be a good idea for a day care fund raising activity, where the day care facility is transformed into a small restaurant and the children serve as waiters, waitresses and chefs to their parents and paying guests. In this scenario, a uniform amount is paid by each guest.

The time and date are of important value and must be greatly considered by the organizers for the day care fund raising activity. Weekends are the best times as parents are usually free from work and the day care facility is free. Weekends also means that the invited public are free to attend the fund raising activity of the day care centre. The time and date of a day care fund raising activity are major factors to the success of the day care fund raising activity.

Finally, the activity or activities should be enjoyable for the children and their parents. It should also be educational for the children and allow the parents to spend quality time with their children. The fund raising activity is for the children and for their benefit after all.
