What Medical Knowledge Do You Need To Ensure Safety In You Facility

Day Care centers are prime businesses today. With the state of the economy in recent times, more and more parents take on full time and part time jobs to support the growing needs of their families. Although they would want to spend time with their small kids, they do not have a choice but to delegate this task to somebody else. Typically, they would get in-house babysitters but they know that this has disadvantages for the kid. If they only have one child for example, that child might miss out on developing his social skills through interacting with other children. That’s why they look for good day care facilities that could not only look after their kids when they are away, but also help in the development of their kids.

Part of having a day care center is being prepared for any medical emergencies that may come your way. Children are very active and will inevitably get into all sorts of accidents even if you had made sure that your facility is safe. Children tend to squeeze into the tightest spaces, bump into things that are at their proper places, and sometimes out things in their mouths just to taste it.

Aside form the first aid kit that you have handy; you will need at least basic knowledge on how to handle medical situations that would need prompt attention.

The first thing you would want to have at a conspicuous place in your facility is a list of emergency numbers that you can call. This would include 911, the fire department, the nearest hospital, a general practitioner’s mobile and home number, and a registered nurses’ number. You will also need a list of your kids’ parents’ phone numbers, both at home and their mobiles.

Next, you need to be familiar with the individual medical histories of your day care kids. Always have their parents complete a form detailing allergies, both to food and drugs, their family doctor’s name and contact numbers, and any other medical condition their kid has had, more importantly the ones that need regular supervision.

Another thing you will need to do is to familiarize yourself with the things that are in your first aid kit. Generally, the first aid kit should include medications for children’s fever, some pain relievers, cold and coughs medication, asthma medication, something for stomach aches, and stuff for wounds like antibacterial creams, gauze, band aids, and so on.

If one of your kids is feeling ill or is complaining of any aches and pains without showing any physical causes, do not immediately give him a pill. Always ask for a doctor’s opinion and call his parents first. If the child is suffering from what you think maybe something infectious, try to isolate him from the rest of the children to avoid the others form catching the same illness.

Scratches are normally washed with soap and water and then treated with an antiseptic or antibacterial cream. Small open wounds would generally require for you to dress the wound. Bigger wounds need prompt medical attention. Also, if any of your kids suffer from falls or bumps his head, get him to a medical clinic or hospital immediately unless you think he should not be moved from where he is in which case, you’ll need to call paramedics in.
